Permanent magnets brushless torque motors with high torque-to-weight for direct drive of automated axis

Designed with the aim of addressing new industrial needs, ALXION has created ST high torque motors range for DIRECT DRIVE allowing acceleration up to 20 000 rad/s². Direct drive motors of  145 ,190 and 300ST ranges present an outstanding compacity with a continuous torque-to-weight up to 3.7 Nm/Kg and a peak torque-to-weight up to 18 Nm/Kg.

Main characteristics torque motor

  • Permanent torque up to 261 Nm and peak torque up to 1161 Nm
  • Possibility to use a hollow shaft up to 75 mm diameter
  • Three motors technologies:

HP : high precision with cogging torque < 1 % for 145 & 190 ST
SP : standard precision with cogging torque = or < 2 % for 145 & 190 ST
X : high precision with cogging torque < 2 %

  • Position feedback:

Resolvers: precision ±1 arcmin or ±10 arcmin
SinCos encoders: incremental or with commutation track
ENDAT absolute encoders
HIPERFACE® encoders

  • Protection degree: IP54
  • Power and signal connections: Class 6, cables 2 meters length
  • Humidity: < 85% (not condensing)

Advantages

  • High dynamics
  • No reducer
  • No backlash
  • High accuracy servo
  • Elimination of maintenance
  • Simplification of the servomechanism
  • Noise reduction
  • Machine optimization and simplification

Characteristics of the range

Proposed in three diameters, 145 ,190 and 300 mm with a large variety of position feedback: resolvers, encoders and a variety of shafts: hollow, blind or solid shaft. Rated torques cover a wide range between 8 Nm and 261 N.m, in natural convection, and the peak torque covers from 27.5 Nm to 1161 Nm. The ST torque motors for direct drive  can reach a rated speed up to 1500 rpm. These high torque motors present an outstanding compacity with a continuous torque-to-weight up to 3.7 Nm/Kg and a peak torque-to-weight up to 18 Nm/Kg that are well adapted for direct drive motors applications. Two windings are proposed as a standard: 500 and 1500 rpm for 145ST or 500 and 1000 rpm for 190ST and 200 and 800 rpm for 300ST. But the winding can easily be adapted to match your optimum drive rating.

Permanent magnets brushless torque motors

The ALXION ST range of  torque motors has been designed for the direct drive of industrial  servomechanisms in particular for high dynamics applications.

The ST torque motors are characterized by the integration of the active parts of the STK kits motors up to the diameter 300 mm, namely their rotor and stator in a casing with flanges, ball bearings, encoders or resolvers, hollow,  blind or solid shafts with connections  through cables or connectors.

ST torque motors therefore have the same advantages as STK motors kits  in terms of compactness, high torque density, accuracy and reliability. They offer the machine manufacturer a complete motor where there is no interest in doing the integration of the motor active parts  in the machine itself. This is particularly the case with machines in which there is no significant frame. Particular mention may be made of carousels with a  motor added externally and test benches. It will also be noted that the high torque motors ST are used in the application of low-load inertia cyclic machines because of the reduced inertia of those motors in spite of high peak   torques.
